| It’s
all about Attitude
Attitude
in soccer is about cultivating your desire to make the most
of your physical being and psychological state of mind. It’s
about utilizing and further developing techniques and talents
that can be transferred into the game. What you choose to
do with those skills is what determines your playing success.
Developing
and maintaining a winning attitude demands hard work. Never
leave your game to hope or chance - take responsibility for
your performance. Win or lose, a good performance should be
the players’ ultimate goal. This requires investing
physical and positive mental energy into training prior to
game time. We reap what we sow. In soccer, this starts in
practice.
During
practice full concentration, determination and self-motivation
are key. Without them we lack the energy and focus needed
to have an open and enquiring mind - one that has the capacity
to actively respond to coaching. Essentially, players should
practice as they intend to play – focused, disciplined,
and engaged. These are good habits. And the best players –
the ones with the right attitude and the ones able to shift
their attitude – can manage these habits and have control
over their playing experience.
In
soccer, on and off the field, how we think and feel about
our ability and our game is revealed in our actions. Identify
your intents and desires and then examine your external actions.
How are you expressing yourself as a player? To your teammates,
your opponents, your coach?
Attitude
is the fuel that drives us to be our best. If you think positive,
train with an open mind and be accountable, your attitude
will be your strongest guide and the driving force behind
your success.
